  • Joseph Abboud, MD

    FOUNDER

    Dr. Abboud is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and specializes in the treatment of patients with shoulder and elbow disorders. He is an internationally recognized authority on the treatment of shoulder and elbow disorders. He is the Chief Medical Officer at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute and a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.

    Dr. Abboud received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and went on to complete his residency in Orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he served as the administrative chief resident. He subsequently completed two (one-year) fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania in Shoulder and Elbow surgery and Orthopaedic Biomechanics.

    Dr. Abboud performs a wide variety of simple and complex surgical procedures on the shoulder and elbow including arthroscopic surgery (e.g. rotator cuff repairs, instability surgery) comprehensive fracture care, as well as shoulder and elbow replacement(arthroplasty) procedures. Dr. Abboud is most proud of the fact that he has been caring for patients in the Delaware Valley, Philadelphia, and South Jersey since the late 90's. His goal is to always provide each patient with exceptional personalized care.

  • Jack Kazanjian, DO

    FOUNDER

    Dr. Kazanjian is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in Shoulder and Elbow disorders including Open Reconstruction, Arthroplasty, Arthroscopy and Trauma. He has maintained a clinical academic practice in the Philadelphia area and surrounding suburbs since 2004. He is dedicated to teaching medical students, interns, residents and fellows and was named in ‘Attending of the Year’ in 2016 by the PCOM Ortho Residents.

    Dr. Kazanjian received his degree in Osteopathic Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine then went on to complete his residency at the same institution. He completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Traumatology/Adult Reconstruction at The Hughston Clinic in Columbus Georgia. He now lectures regionally, nationally and internationally on various shoulder and elbow topics.

    He established the Shoulder and Elbow Section of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics and co-founded the Mid Atlantic Shoulder and Elbow Society. He currently holds the position of Treasurer for the Pennsylvania Orthopedic Society, is a Leadership Development Program Committee Member, and Membership Committee Member for the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society, and recently was the President of the Philadelphia Orthopedic Society.

  • Anand Murthi, MD

    PROGRAM CHAIR

    Dr. Anand Murthi is the Chief, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, where he also serves as the Director of the Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship and Research. He is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship trained in shoulder and elbow surgery, who sees patients in Timonium (Baltimore County) and in Baltimore at MedStar Union Memorial.

    Dr. Murthi received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at George Washington University Medical Center. He completed the internationally recognized fellowship in shoulder and elbow reconstruction at the New York Orthopaedic Hospital-Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He is the current section editor for the journal “Current Orthopaedic Practice.” He also sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty. He has published and presented numerous research papers on a national and international stage. As a teacher he has been involved in teaching physicians around the country surgical techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery. He is former president and founding member of the Association of Clinical Elbow and Shoulder Surgeons (ACESS) group. He is also an elected member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society (ASES), an international group of shoulder and elbow surgeons dedicated to the mission of teaching and research for which he has chaired the Education Committee. Recently he was elected to the Neer Circle of ASES. He currently is a co-chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Shoulder and Elbow Society which holds an annual regional scientific meeting.

  • Brent Wiesel, MD

    PROGRAM CHAIR

    Brent B. Wiesel, MD, is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery for adolescents and adults. In addition to traditional open surgery, he has expertise in the latest techniques including minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and reverse shoulder replacement.

    Dr. Wiesel is chief of the shoulder service at the MedStar Orthopaedic Institute, and he performs surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

    Dr. Wiesel developed his interest in shoulder disorders after injuring his shoulder preparing for the 1996 Olympics as a member of the USA Canoe/Kayak whitewater slalom team. His injury and subsequent two surgeries prevented him from competing in the Olympics, but he returned to the sport recreationally and went on to medical school and residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He had additional training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia.

    As part of the shoulder service team, Dr. Wiesel is also involved in research on advancing treatment for shoulder and elbow disorders.
